Jake (Jacqueline) Freeman, B.Sc.

Jake (Jacqueline) Freeman (she/her) is a proud Michif raised in the birthplace of the Métis Nation, Treaty 1 territory, now known as Winnipeg, MB. A Red River Métis Citizen, Jake draws inspiration from her rich cultural heritage and the natural beauty of her surroundings.

Taanishi kiiya! I draw inspiration from my surroundings as well as my Red River Métis roots to create wearable art for everyone. I’ve embarked on an artistic journey that has allowed me to share and sell my pieces in various places in both Manitoba and British Columbia.  With family ties to Winnipeg, Bowen Island, and Squamish, my creations reflect a deep connection to nature and Métis culture, employing diverse media such as beads, quills, leather, and birch bark. I’m committed to preserving Michif identity and history, while creating pieces for everyone to enjoy while learning about the uniqueness of the Metis Nation through contemporary art. My pieces aim to resonate with diverse audiences, inviting them to connect with the intricate beauty of nature and culture while fostering appreciation through Indigenous arts.
